- SYNOPSIS OF ACTIVITY
- --------------------
-
- Solar activity was low. Two uncorrelated C-class x-ray
- bursts were detected. The largest was a C4 at 05/1033UT. Region
- 7629 (S22E30) continues to grow and shows signs of becoming
- magnetically complex.
-
- Solar activity forecast: solar activity is expected to be
- very low to low. Region 7629 has the best chance of C-class
- activity and an outside chance of producing an isolated M flare.
-
- The geomagnetic field has been at quiet to unsettled
- levels for the past 24 hours. High latitude stations saw a
- period of unsettled to minor storm levels between 05/1200 and
- 05/1500UT.
-
- Geophysical activity forecast: the geomagnetic field is
- expected to be quiet to unsettled for the entire period.
-

-
- B. High Latitudes
- Active 20/20/20
- Minor Storm 10/10/10
- Major-Severe Storm 01/01/05
-
- HF propagation conditions were normal over all regions,
- although sporadic high-latitude night-sector signal
- instabilities have persisted at slightly above normal levels.
- Conditions are expected to remain normal over all regions.
- There is a slightly increasing probability for SWFs over
- daylit paths during the next 72 hours due to possible minor
- solar flares.

- SYNOPSIS OF ACTIVITY
- --------------------
-
- Solar activity was low. Region 7629 (S22E16) has grown
- substantially during the period. Reports of a delta
- configuration in the intermediate spots show a correspondence
- between that site and the location of two sizeable C-class
- flares which occurred recently. The events were a C9/1N at
- 1721Z and a C7/SF at 2049Z. The other two spotted regions were
- quiet.
-
- Solar activity forecast: solar activity is expected to be
- low to moderate. Region 7629 may yield an M-class event during
- the interval.
-
- The geomagnetic field has been mostly quiet.
-
- Geophysical activity forecast: the geomagnetic field is
- expected to be quiet to unsettled throughout the period.

- Minor Storm 10/10/10
- Major-Severe Storm 01/05/05
-
- HF propagation conditions were normal over all regions.
- There may have been a brief SWF over daylit paths near 17:22
- UTC in conjunction with the C9.7 flare, although no reports
- have been received at the present time to confirm this.
- Conditions will continue near-normal over all regions through

- Pete, this is the way it starts.
-
- First it's computers. Then you move to amateur radio. Next you'll be
- wanting to get involved in basement-mounted fusion reactors and home-built
- spacecraft.
-
- Take my advice--get out now--before it's too late. Technical junkie-ism is
- a terrible dehibilitating disease that ruins marriages and undermines the
- sanctity of the American family.
-
- Take it from one who still has the rusted mounting bolts for the
- liquid-cooled CO2 laser sunken into his driveway--forget radio. Try
- professional golf. It's easier to master and you make more money.

- Myron never *has* to explain intent. Not ever. It might demonstrate wisdom
- and maturity to consider the impression concerning his attitudes and
- sensitivities which material which he chooses to post makes on other
- people. It might also demonstrate wisdom and maturity to consider how
- Asians, and particularly Japanese, people feel when they view the sort
- of racial/cultural stereotype which "Scratchi" represents. But he doesn't
- have to explain himself if he chooses not to.
-
- I would point out that only someone with sufficient faith in Myron's
- basic motivations being positive would bother to ask him for an explanation
- of his purpose in posting the material.
-
-
- > until true offense, not pc offense,
-
- Ah. So if post an article entirely in jive, and no black person reads it,
- that's an okay thing for a white man to do? And of course it won't matter
- if it's liberally laced with the word 'nigger?'
-
- Please explain to me how it is frivolous (which is what I believe you mean
- by 'pc') to express concern that someone's statements can be construed
- as racist. Please explain to me how it is frivolous to want this newsgroup
- to be a place where amateurs of many cultures can come and not have to
- be confronted with racism, bigotry, and stereotyping of their culture.
-
- How is that inconsistent with the idea of amateur radio being a world-wide
- fraternity?
-
- Are you saying, then, that the ideal of accepting people on an equal footing
- and treating them with enough consideration so as not to make fun of them
- is simply a 'politically correct' notion, and has no merit as an idea, in
- and of itself?
-
- Will you characterize Japanese people as funny little unassuming folk and
- support making fun of the way in which some of them speak, while accepting
- their QSL cards for a 'Worked all JA Award?'
-
-
- Did it ever occur to you that some reader might be too mortified and
- horrified to object to the use of this kind of slur?
-
- > By your intent we should disallow reproductions of bible
- >text because they slur certain pc categories.
-
- Do not presume to tell me my intent. I stated my intent. Your inability
- to comprehend it is your problem. I have said, very simply, that posting
- old "Scratchi" columns without some sense of purpose and intent is really
- not a very appropriate action, in my opinion. On the other hand, "Scratchi,"
- for all its racist and sterotypical nature, was one of CQ's major OP-ED
- methods, in its day. So the underlying ideas may, indeed, shed some light
- on a discussion at hand. In using such material, it is customary to
- acknowledge that the material has some real problems.
-
- In any case, I see why there are still bigots in the world. A 1960 issue of CQ
- magazine ain't the Bible, not by a long shot. It is not analagous. Number
- one. Number two, your 'pc categories' are real people, with real feelings.
- And deserving of real respect for their race, culture, and heritage.
-
- Apparently you can't wrap your insensitive little racist mind around the
- ideas. Instead of confronting them directly, as I have done with the
- ideas expressed by the "Scratchi" columns, you dismiss them as 'politically
- correct.' As if attacking the motivations of the person who raises the
- notion that "Scratchi" represents a genre of material which has to be
- handled with some discretion will somehow make these ideas go away.
-
- Dennis, if you put yourself in the position of defending racism, in
- either word or deed, you align yourself with one of the great evils
- in the world today.
-
- Think about it.
